About this site
This blog aims to give roughly a 24 hour warning on any severe or extreme weather for Freuchie and the surrounding area of Fife in Scotland.
On the 13th of August 2008, sustained heavy rainfall caused serious flooding in Freuchie. Many houses were flooded and cars written off. Whilst advanced warning wouldn’t have prevented the flooding, it may have allowed people to move cars away from the flood zone, move valuables upstairs etc. Also for other kinds of severe weather such as high winds, blizzards, snowfall, high temperatures, a quick heads up would be useful for future planning and that is what this site hopes to do.
Several ‘alerts’ blatantly ripped from Star Trek, will be given for various kinds of severe weather forecast:
Condition Green – No severe weather forecast
Yellow Alert- Weather to be mindful of but nothing too severe. Winds 25mph – 40mph; Temperatures 22c – 27c; High rainfall but not enough to cause flooding.
Red Alert – Severe weather forecast; Perhaps take steps to ensure property or valuables aren’t damaged. Winds 40mph+; Temperatures 27c+; High rainfall that could cause flooding.
Blue Alert- Cold temperatures and snowfall. Advisable to allow extra time when travelling. Temperatures below 0c for more than a few hours; Snowfall that is more than simply a dusting.
Combined Blue & Red Alerts – Severe cold weather – may need to check travel reports or postpone travel. Temperatures below -8c overnight and/or below -2c during the day; Severe Snowfall, Blizzards, Drifiting and all that winter fun.
Text in Blue is my personal opinion on things and my general ramblings and should in no way taken to mean anything official!
